Team composition:

In the men’s tournament, only 3 of the 18 players on each team are allowed to be seniors (over 23 years of age): all the rest must be under 23 years of age.

Women’s tournament: No age restriction.
Group stage:

Teams are divided into groups (usually four groups of four teams).
Each team plays three matches in a round-robin format.
Points are awarded for each match: 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss.
The top two teams from each group advance to the knockout stage. In some tournaments, the best third-placed teams may also advance.
Knockout stage:

It consists of the quarter-finals, semi-finals, bronze medal match (third place play-off) and gold medal match (final).
Matches that end in a draw go to extra time and, if necessary, penalty shootouts.
Rules:

Teams must submit a squad of up to 18 players, including three goalkeepers.

Substitutions: During the match, teams can make up to three substitutions. If the match goes into extra time, a fourth substitution is allowed. Discipline: Yellow and red card rules apply, with players facing suspension if they accumulate a red card or yellow card. These rules ensure a mix of young talent and experienced players in the men’s tournament while providing a full competitive field in the women’s tournament. The group and knockout stages form an exciting progression, culminating in the medal matches.
